Samantha’s Story
Rebeca teaches first and second grade at Esperanza School. In the story below, she shares what she has seen as she and other members of the EA Community have gathered around Samantha with patience, affection, and hope.
Samantha is a first-grade student and the youngest of six siblings. Her parents are separated, and she lives with her mother, an older brother, and her stepfather. Her momma works to provide for the family.
When I met Samantha, I could see that she was facing several challenges. Academically, she recognized only a few vowels and could not yet identify words. It was also clear that she needed support extending beyond academics—consistent attention, care, and people willing to walk alongside her.
As I learned more about Samantha’s life, I felt that she needed someone to believe in her and help her discover that she was capable of learning. But I was not walking with her alone. Together, our team began spending time with her, listening, guiding her, and using strategies suited to her needs. We recognized and celebrated each small accomplishment, helping her build confidence.
Our care for Samantha has not been limited to teaching letters and words. We are accompanying her in everyday life with patience, affection, and understanding. Through conversations, prayer, and simple biblical teaching, we are also helping her understand that God loves her, that she is not alone, and that her life has purpose.
Today, Samantha is beginning to read. Her steps forward may still seem small, but they mean a great deal to her and to all of us walking with her. She is becoming more confident and interested in learning. We are also seeing her love for and trust in God grow.
Samantha’s story reminds me that God often works through small acts of love, patience, and faithful presence. Behind every difficulty is a story that needs to be heard and a life worthy of hope. The hardships Samantha has experienced do not have to determine her future. Each small step is part of something much greater that God is doing in her life.

Pray that as Samantha experiences Christ’s love through the EA Community, she will feel safe and secure enough to learn and grow.
Pray that Samantha’s mother will also experience Christ’s love through the many ways our ministry team is walking alongside her and her family.
Rebeca Landeo
Rebeca is studying to become an Early Childhood teacher and serves in Esperanza School with the first and second graders. As the newest member of our team, Rebeca has quickly become a blessing to our Community, bringing biblical wisdom, years of ministry experience, and a steady, faithful presence among our children. She is married and has two wonderful children. Rebeca has walked through many difficult seasons, but she says God has always been good to her and has never left her. He has given her strength that only He can give and a peace in her heart that cannot be explained.
