Angely’s Story

When 9-year-old Angely first arrived at Esperanza de Ana, her family was living on the streets, and she and her brother Rafael were severely malnourished.

Like many vulnerable children, Angely’s right to identity—the basic human right of birth registration—and her right to education had been completely denied. Without official documents, she did not exist in the eyes of the state.

For a child, not knowing her own birthdate or exact age leaves a quiet emptiness. There are no birthday candles, no memories to mark the passing of years—only the feeling that time moves on without you. Restoring that simple truth of who she is gave Angely back her story.

When she entered Esperanza de Ana, those rights were restored, and her life began to change.

Her father, a practicing witch doctor, had brought fear and chaos into the home. Through the work of Esperanza de Ana in cooperation with local authorities, he was removed from the home, allowing the family to begin a long journey toward safety and healing. Angely’s mother still struggles with the lasting effects of abuse, and we walk closely with her—helping her rebuild confidence and learn how to care for Rafael and Angely.

At first, Angely couldn’t read or write. Each day during group prayer time, her teacher, Miss Fabiola, invites the children to share their prayer requests. Angely’s prayer was always the same: that God would give her wisdom to learn to read. Miss Fabiola gently reminded her, “God hears you, Angely. He delights in helping you learn.” Before every reading lesson, Angely would bow her head and pray quietly on her own, asking for God’s help.

Over time, the stability and safety Angely found at Esperanza de Ana began to bear fruit. With a quiet determination and the loving guidance of Miss Fabiola, her hard work started to shine through. Today, Angely is in third grade—reading, writing, and learning that God is a father that she can trust.. She has discovered both confidence and joy in learning. Her story is a gentle reminder that restoration often begins with small prayers and faithful hearts—one step, one word, one hope at a time.

Please pray that Angely continues to grow in faith and trust in God—and that her family experiences lasting restoration and peace.
