Daylin’s Story

Daylin is only eight years old, the youngest of three, and already her joy is contagious—her smile brightens every room she enters. This is the first year for the Community at Esperanza de Ana to walk alongside her and her family.

Not long after the family became a part of Esperanza de Ana, their world was shaken. In July, Daylin’s mother, Mrs. Adela, fell seriously ill. Doctors first said lung cancer, then gave the diagnosis as a pleural effusion. The uncertainty pressed heavily on Adela, leaving her too weak to care for her daughter. Daylin felt the weight of it too. The little girl who loves to laugh was now crying often, aching for her mother’s healing.

At Esperanza de Ana, Daylin unloaded her heavy heart in her classroom’s daily prayer. Each time the class gathered, she voiced the same request: “Please pray for my mom.” Often with tears and fear in her eyes, she asked again and again. Her teacher, Miss Fabiola, knelt beside her—listening, comforting, and joining her prayers with the other children’s. Together they lifted up Adela, trusting the God who hears.

In those times of group prayer Daylin experienced Jesus’ love. And then came the day when Adela, stronger, was able to attend a family event with her daughter. Side by side, they laughed and celebrated—an ordinary moment that felt like a special gift. For Daylin, her friends, and her teacher, it was an experience of answered prayer. For her mother, it was a taste of peace in the midst of treatment and uncertainty.

Adela now speaks with gratitude: her daughter has received the love and support she so desperately needed. She herself feels a calm she did not have before, knowing that Daylin is safe, surrounded by a community that points her to Jesus.

Through Daylin’s tears, through her friends’ prayers, through a mother’s renewed strength, the kingdom of God showed up—tangible, near, alive—within the community of Esperanza de Ana.
